Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 19, 2026

Plain-language summary: We use the photo you scan only to identify the item, and we don't keep it. We don't sell your data. To run the service we share the minimum needed with our AI, search, hosting, and payment providers. Some features below (accounts, subscriptions) apply only once you create an account.

This Privacy Policy explains how BIDonBOT ("we," "us," "the service" — operated by David VanWagoner, a sole proprietor) collects, uses, and shares information when you use bidonbot.com.

1. Information we collect

Photos you scan

When you use the scan feature, your device sends a downsized photo to our identification service. We do not store your photos. Each image is processed in memory to identify the item and is then discarded. We do not build a profile from your images and we do not use them to train AI models.

Searches and items

The text you search and the items you scan are processed to return live comparable prices ("comps"). If you have a paid account, your recent scans may be saved to your account as scan history so you can refer back to them; you can clear this at any time.

Account information (accounts only)

If you create an account, we collect your email address and basic authentication data through our accounts provider (Supabase). We use magic-link and/or Google sign-in; we do not store passwords.

Payment information (subscribers only)

Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles it directly. We retain only a customer reference and your subscription status (active, canceled, renewal date).

Usage and device data

To operate fairly and prevent abuse, we process your IP address, scan counts, and a device identifier stored in your browser. These enforce rate limits and the free-tier scan throttle. We may collect basic, aggregate usage data (for example, how often scans succeed) to improve the service.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser storage for essential functions only: your sign-in session, the device token that enforces the scan throttle, and small flags that remember what you've already seen (so we don't repeat one-time prompts or animations). We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

2. How we use information

3. How your scan photo is processed

To identify an item, your downsized photo is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude), solely to recognize the item and produce a search description. Anthropic processes the image to return a result and, per its API terms, does not use it to train its models. We do not retain the image after processing.

4. Who we share information with

We share the minimum necessary with service providers that help us run BIDonBOT. We do not sell your personal information.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a business transfer.

5. Data retention

Scan photos are not retained. Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted (or anonymized) after you close it, except where we must keep records for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes. Aggregate, non-identifying usage data may be kept longer.

6. Your choices and rights

You can delete your account and all associated data yourself at any time: sign in, tap your email in the top-right account menu, and choose Delete account & data (this also cancels any active subscription and cannot be undone). You can also request access to or correction of your data. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. To make any request, contact us using the details below.

7. Security

We use reputable providers, transmit data over HTTPS, keep API keys server-side, and apply rate limiting and abuse controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

8. Children

BIDonBOT is intended for users 18 and older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. We will revise the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes will be noted on this page.
